One of the best papers I’ve read regarding water market data is a 2007 publication by Brewer et al. Even if the data summarized in this paper is 4 years old, it is hard to argue with a journal article based on 3,000 + transactions in 12 Western states.
I have recently crunched some numbers from this paper and come up with the following observations:
1. Sales represent the most common contract type.
2. Agriculture water is the source for most transfers.
